
Substance Abuse and Recovery - A Lawyer's Story
An interview with Gary Reing
Studies show lawyers are prone to abuse substances and alcohol at a higher rate than those in other professions. Gary Reing, Chair of the Lawyers Assistance Committee of the NYS Bar Association, talks about his own struggles many decades ago, his road to recovery, and the resources available to help lawyers in need.

Gary Reing is a tax attorney in New York. He is the current chair of the Lawyer Assistance Committee of the New York State Bar Association and is charged is overseeing the Lawyer Assistance Program. He is also the immediate past chairman for the Lawyers Assistance Program for the New York City Bar Association and is a trustee of the New York Lawyer Assistance Trust. He frequently presents on issues of recovery from alcoholism and addiction as well as programs offered by the Lawyers Assistance Program committees.
